Maiden Flights from Gateway International Airport Sold Out

In a remarkable display of confidence and excitement, the maiden commercial flights from the Gateway International Airport (GWI), Iperu-Ilishan, to Abuja (ABV) have sold out completely. Reports confirmed that not only the inaugural flight tickets were fully booked, but tickets for the following day were also purchased across all classes, leaving no available seats.
The development has been hailed as a major endorsement of the newly commissioned airport, underscoring its readiness to function as a hub for modern aviation, commerce, and connectivity in Nigeria. Aviation experts and economic observers say the overwhelming demand reflects public trust in the facility’s potential to transform travel, trade, and investment opportunities in Ogun State, while also easing the pressure on airports in Lagos and neighboring states.
By offering improved access to domestic and, eventually, international destinations, the Gateway International Airport is expected to become a catalyst for economic growth, industrial expansion, and tourism.
The announcement of the sold-out flights was shared on X by the Senior Special Assistant on New Media to the Ogun State Governor, Emmanuel Ojo, who described the development as a clear signal that the airport is “off to a flying start.”
