Oyedepo Warns of Nigeria’s Rising Insecurity; Calls for Urgent National Prayer and Justice
Presiding Bishop of Living Faith Church Worldwide, David Oyedepo, has issued a renewed 15-year warning concerning the escalating insecurity in Nigeria, amid recent attacks on churches that resulted in several worshippers losing their lives and others being abducted.
In a significant development, Italy has become the second G7 nation after the United States to publicly demand an immediate end to the killing of Christians in Nigeria.
Recall that U.S. President Donald Trump previously threatened military intervention if the Nigerian government failed to halt what he described as a Christian genocide.
Speaking during the 4th Pre-Shiloh Encounter Service yesterday, Bishop Oyedepo expressed grave concern over the deteriorating security situation in Nigeria.
He stated, “Developments in the past two weeks, especially in Nigeria, are deeply troubling. There is an urgent need for collective prayer to put an end to the killings. Human lives should never be traded for comfort or convenience.
“All the innocent bloodshed is crying out for justice, and those responsible will answer to God.”
Emphasizing his patriotism, Oyedepo declared, “No one is more Nigerian than I am. We all have our ancestral roots. Power passes power, but ultimately, it is the power of God that prevails.”
He called on church members to engage in midnight prayers, urging, “We are going on a midnight prayer raid. Every member must stay awake one hour before violence spirals into chaos in Nigeria. If a church can be invaded during worship, with lives lost and people abducted, and nothing is done, then the God of justice is rising. The Bible assures us in Genesis 12:3 that the wicked will be cursed in prayers.”
Highlighting Nigeria’s spiritual identity, Oyedepo affirmed, “When God intervenes, human arrogance is humbled. Every pride will be brought low. Nigeria will never descend into chaos. I speak these truths passionately because they come from the burning spirit of a prophet.”
Citing scripture on peace, he added, “When God speaks, peace follows. Psalm 85:8 says, ‘I will listen to what God the LORD will say; for He will surely speak peace to His people and His saints. He will not let them return to folly.’ I have been proclaiming this for 15 years, and God has prompted me to speak again.”
While condemning violence, kidnapping, and terrorism, Oyedepo called for justice, urging believers to participate actively in the upcoming midnight prayers to confront the forces of evil and restore peace to Nigeria.
