Osun Election 2026: Adeleke Secures Second Term With 511,067 Votes
Governor Ademola Adeleke has been declared the winner of the August 15, 2026 Osun State governorship election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Adeleke, who contested under the Accord Party, defeated the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Asiwaju Bola Oyebamiji, by polling 511,067 votes against Oyebamiji’s 444,815 votes.
The African Democratic Party (ADP) candidate, Dr Najeem Salaam, finished in third position with 17,180 votes.
The Returning Officer for the election, Prof. Joshua Olalekan Ogunwale, announced the final results on Sunday at the INEC headquarters in Osogbo.
According to the electoral commission, 2,339,544 voters were registered for the election, while 1,010,684 were accredited. A total of 985,097 votes were declared valid, with 20,721 votes rejected. The total number of ballots recorded stood at 1,005,800.
Prof. Ogunwale said Adeleke met the constitutional requirements for victory after recording the highest number of votes and securing the required spread across the local government areas.
The Returning Officer said by the power vested in him, he declared Adeleke the winner of the election having scored the highest numbers of votes in the election and obtained two third majority in two third of 30 local government of the state.
His words: “I, Prof. Joshua Olalekan Ogunwale hereby declare the candidate of Accord Ademola Jackson Adeleke the winner of the election having satisfied the requirements”
The announcement sparked celebrations in Osogbo as Adeleke’s supporters took to the streets, singing and celebrating the governor’s return for another term.
Reacting to the outcome, a resident, Taiwo Oloyede, expressed satisfaction with the result and praised INEC for conducting the election.
He also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for giving free hands to the electoral umpire and particularly his intervention when the State government account was frozen.
A civil servant, Odunola Omojola, also attributed Adeleke’s victory to his administration’s attention to the welfare of workers.
According to him, the backing of Adeleke by Osun workforce contributed to the victory of the governor.
