The Bauchi State Police Command has successfully arrested two suspected thugs and rescued three victims following an attack in Bununu Town, Ningi Local Government Area. The incident occurred on Monday, August 17, 2026, when police officers on routine patrol responded swiftly to a distress call and intervened during an assault on three residents of the town.
According to police reports, the victims, aged 28 to 31, sustained injuries to their heads and other parts of their bodies during the assault. The police patrol team acted promptly, arresting two suspects identified as Ibrahim Hassan, 23, and Bilal Hassan, 22, both residents of Bununu. The suspects were caught with a sharp knife and a locally known animal horn called “kaho,” which are believed to have been used during the attack.
The other members of the gang managed to escape the scene before police arrived. The injured victims were immediately taken to the General Hospital in Bununu, where they received medical treatment and are reported to be in stable condition. Police officials indicated that the victims have provided confessions during their interrogation, aiding ongoing investigations.
The Bauchi Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, confirmed the arrests and recovery of weapons, emphasizing the importance of swift police response to maintain peace in the area. The police are intensifying efforts to apprehend the fleeing members of the gang and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the attack.
Bauchi’s Police Commissioner, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned the violent act and assured residents that the police are committed to eradicating thuggery, hooliganism, and any form of violence threatening public order in the state. He ordered a thorough investigation into the incident and directed that the suspects be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
In response to the attack, additional police personnel have been deployed to Bununu to strengthen security and prevent further disturbances. The police have also urged residents to remain vigilant, report suspicious activities, and cooperate with law enforcement agencies to ensure lasting peace in the community.
