Teenager Rescued from Toilet Confinement in Port Harcourt, Couple Detained.

The Rivers State Police Command has apprehended a couple in connection with a disturbing incident involving their teenage house help. The 15-year-old girl, identified only as Amaechi, was found locked in a toilet at their residence in Abuloma, Port Harcourt. The teenager, originally from Ebonyi State, was rescued on September 14 by officers from the Abuloma Police Division after concerns were raised following her prolonged absence.

According to reports, the landlord of the property noticed that Amaechi had not been seen outside the house for several weeks, prompting suspicion. Upon investigation, the police discovered that the girl had been confined in the toilet for an extended period, reportedly over an unspecified wrongdoing. During her detention, she was allegedly fed once a day with leftover food, despite her repeated pleas to be released.

Neighbours who heard the girl’s cries played a crucial role in alerting authorities. Their intervention led to the police storming the residence and rescuing Amaechi. The police spokesperson for Rivers State, Blessing Agabe, confirmed the incident in a telephone interview. She explained that the landlord’s suspicion prompted the police to act swiftly, resulting in the girl’s rescue and the arrest of the couple involved.

The couple, whose identities have been withheld, are currently in police custody as investigations continue. Authorities have also contacted the girl’s family and instructed them to come to the station. Importantly, the police have stated that Amaechi would not be returned to the house where she was confined, emphasizing that her welfare and safety are their priority.

In her remarks, Agabe confirmed that the investigation was ongoing and that charges against the couple would depend on the findings. She assured the public that the police were committed to protecting vulnerable individuals and bringing perpetrators of such inhumane acts to justice.
