Royal Fathers, Leaders Unite Behind Ijebu-Remo State Proposal.
Senator Gbenga Daniel, who represents Ogun East Senatorial District, met with royal fathers and community leaders at the Palace of the Awujale in Ijebu-Ode on Monday to discuss the proposed creation of Ijebu-Remo State.
The gathering was convened by the Implementation Committee on the Creation of a New State out of the Old Ijebu Province. It brought together members of the Ijebu Traditional Council, traditional rulers and other stakeholders to consider the proposal, which identifies Ijebu-Ode as the prospective state capital.
Participants declared their support for the initiative and pledged to work together towards its realisation. Discussions centred on the aspirations of people from the old Ijebu Province and the need for unity, coordination and sustained engagement among traditional institutions, community leaders and other stakeholders.
The meeting was led by the Orimolusi of Ijebu-Igbo, Oba Lawrence Adebajo. Also in attendance were Olorogun Sonny Kuku, the Ogbeni-Oja of Ijebuland and Chairman of the Awujale Interregnum Council, and other members of the traditional council.
Among the royal fathers present were the Ajalorun of Ijebu-Ife, Oba Adesesan Afolorunso Oguntayo; the Onirete of Irete-Ijebu, Oba Abdul-Ganiyu Olusegun Awokoya-Yesufu; and the Dagburewe of Idowa, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adefuwape Okuribido Okulote II.
Former Ogun State Deputy Governor Senator Adegbenga Kaka and the Bobasuwa of Ijebuland, Chief Funlola Okunowo, were also among the dignitaries.
Stakeholders emphasised the role of traditional institutions and community leadership in shaping conversations about Ijebuland’s political, economic and developmental future. They resolved to strengthen collaboration among royal fathers and leaders across the region as efforts to advance the state creation proposal continue.
