Babcock High, Cornerstone Academy Win Top Honours at Isanbi Day Competitions.

Babcock University High School and Cornerstone Academy emerged as the leading schools in the Spelling Bee and Debate competitions at the 2026 Isanbi Day Education Programme.

Organised by the Ilisan Youth Development Association (IYDA), the competitions brought together secondary school students from Ilisan and nearby communities. They were part of activities marking the 49th Isanbi Day anniversary, providing students with a platform to demonstrate their knowledge, confidence and communication skills.

In the Junior Secondary School Spelling Bee, Ayeni Flourish of Babcock University High School took first place. Oremuyiwa Opemipo of Aunty Fola High School finished second, while Oshosanwo Habibat of Future Leaders Group of School came third.

The Senior Secondary School Debate focused on the motion: “Government should prioritise vocational skills training over university education for youth empowerment.” Cornerstone Academy won the competition, followed by Highbrow Private School in second place and Babcock University High School in third.

The debate challenged students to research the issue, speak publicly and defend their positions on education and youth development. The spelling contest tested participants’ vocabulary, concentration and accuracy.

Evang. Olalekan Ifede, founder and pioneer chairman of the Ilisan Youth Movement—now IYDA—and executive chairman of the Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board, urged students to stay determined in their studies and make use of opportunities that support their development. He praised the students, teachers and organisers, highlighting dedication and hard work as important to achieving their goals.

The Zonal Education Officer for Ikenne, represented by Mr. Kolawole Rotimi Johnson, also encouraged students to remain committed to education. He proposed including Yoruba in future Spelling Bee competitions to promote appreciation of the indigenous language.

IYDA Chairman Alhaji Usman Simisaye commended the participants for their conduct and urged them to compete with integrity. He also recognised the Education Programme Committee for organising the events.

The competitions were a key feature of the anniversary programme and reflected IYDA’s efforts to promote academic excellence, healthy competition and personal development among young people.
