Nigeria’s FX Turnover Rises 11% to $2.63bn

Nigeria’s foreign exchange market recorded a rebound in trading activity in the week ended September 25, 2026, with combined turnover in FX Spot and Derivatives rising to $2.63 billion.

Data from FMDQ Group showed that total turnover stood at $2,627.15 million, representing an 11.02 per cent increase, or $260.85 million, from the $2,366.30 million recorded in the previous week ended September 18.

The increase was driven by higher activity in both segments of the market. FX Spot transactions rose by 10.62 per cent to $2,587.94 million from $2,339.52 million, while FX Derivatives turnover increased by 46.42 per cent to $39.21 million from $26.78 million.

The latest increase follows a 30.23 per cent week-on-week decline recorded in the previous period, when total FX turnover fell from $3.39 billion in the week ended September 11 to $2.37 billion.

The latest figures therefore indicate a recovery in weekly trading activity, with spot transactions continuing to account for the overwhelming share of total FX turnover during the period.
