INEC Sets October 9 for Nationwide PVC Collection Ahead of 2027 Elections
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced October 9, 2026, as the commencement date for the nationwide collection of newly issued Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, disclosed the date during the commission’s North-West Zonal Interactive Meeting and readiness assessment in Kaduna.
The commission said the cards were produced following the three phases of the Continuous Voter Registration exercise, which recorded 10,772,421 new registrations nationwide. The figure remains subject to verification through the Automated Biometric Identification System.
Amupitan directed electoral officials to address operational challenges and remove bottlenecks that could hinder eligible voters from collecting their PVCs, particularly at the local government level.
He also urged INEC personnel to maintain neutrality and professionalism in the discharge of their duties ahead of the elections.
The 2027 Presidential and National Assembly elections are scheduled for January 16, 2027, while the Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections will hold on February 6, 2027.
The commission has urged eligible voters to make adequate arrangements to collect their PVCs once the exercise begins.
