Ogun Police, Abiodun Urge Security Personnel to Remain Neutral Ahead of 2027 Elections

The Ogun State Police Command and Governor Dapo Abiodun have urged security personnel to maintain professionalism, impartiality and respect for the law as preparations for the 2027 general elections gather momentum.

The call was made during a two-day workshop on elections, security, the law, stakeholders and the media organised by the Ogun State Police Command in Abeokuta.

The Governor, represented by his Special Adviser on Security, AIG Olusola Subair (retd.), said security agencies have an important role in protecting the democratic process and urged personnel to perform their duties professionally and avoid actions capable of triggering electoral violence.

The governor also encouraged officers to apply the knowledge gained from the training to ensure peaceful, free and fair elections in Ogun State.

The state Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, described election security as a shared responsibility and urged political parties, candidates and supporters to respect the law and reject violence, intimidation and attacks on electoral officials or facilities.

Meanwhile, Kano State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, issued a separate directive in Kano, warning police officers to remain neutral and non-partisan ahead of the 2027 elections. He said officers who engage in partisan politics or compromise the integrity of the electoral process would face strict disciplinary action.

The officials’ separate calls underscore the need for security personnel to uphold professionalism, impartiality and respect for electoral laws throughout the election period.
