Obaship tussle: Iwaye-Dodo petitions Dapo Abiodun over disobedience of court order by controversial monarch

A ruling House of Iwaye-Dodo in Ipokia town of Ipokia local government area of Ogun State has petitioned Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun against Yisa Olaniyan, who they claimed has continued to parade himself as traditional ruler of the town, having earlier being stopped by a court judgment.

Our Correspondents reports that, the petitioners which include Prince Adesola Asade, Prince Adepegba Asade and Princess Akinleye Alaba, through their lawyer, argued that on March 3, 2022 Justice O Ogunfowora of the High Court of Ogun State set aside the approval and appointment of Yisa Olusola Olaniyan

The Honourable court set aside the approval and appointment of Yisa Olusola Olaniyan (the 11th Defendant) as Onipokia of Ipokia pending the hearing and determination of the Motion on Notice for injunction earlier filed by the Claimants. Attached herewith is the Order of the court dated March 23, 2022 as Annexure PAA-1’

The petitioners emphasized that, the court specifically stated at page 6 of the ruling, and posited that, it a sense of responsibility that a government should not disrespected court order

‘I must state with all sense of responsibility that a Government that requests, nay, demands obedience and respect of its citizenry to eschew self-help must not itself disrespect the Court and its processes, particularly when it is aware that a matter is in Court’.

The aggrieved ruling house emphasized that, the ruling of the court delivered on March 3, 2022 by Honourable Justice O. Ogunfowora sitting in Abeokuta, Ogun State declared that Yisa Olusola Olaniyan should immediately vacate the two palaces being used for the functions of office and duties of Onipokia of Ipokia.

*That Yisa Olusola Olaniyan can no longer attend any functions or perform any traditional (and other related) duties as Onipokia of Ipokia. That Olu of Ilaro and other traditional Chiefs should no longer allow, recognize or accord any respect or recognition to Yisa Olusola Olaniyan as Onipokia of Ipokia

However, the petitioners pointed out that despite the above order of the court, Yisa Olusola Olaniyan has continued to recklessly, lawlessly and most irresponsibly carry-out the functions and duties as Onipokia of Ipokia in flagrant disobedience of the valid and subsisting order of the High Court of Ogun State.

The petitioners said government should immediately seal off the palace of Onipokia of Ipokia at Market Square and the mini Palace located at the Iwaye Dodo ruling house in Iwaye Dodo Compound

`Your Excellency, as the Chief Security Officer and Chief Enforcer of lawful orders in Ogun State, we kindly request you to use your good offices to cause the deployment of security officers and officers of all other agencies in the State to enforce the order of Court and prevent a break-down of law and order in Ipokialand’
