Abiodun Announces State Police Readiness, Begins Cash Transfer Programme in Sagamu

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has declared his administration’s readiness for the establishment of state police and announced the commencement of a cash transfer programme for vulnerable residents, beginning with Sagamu.

Abiodun made the announcements on Thursday during the 2027 budget and 2027–2029 Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) town hall meeting for Remo Division, held at the Akarigbo Palace in Sagamu.

Speaking on security, the governor said his administration had strengthened the state’s security architecture and was prepared to support the establishment of state police to improve security across Ogun State.

He also highlighted the roles of existing security outfits, including the Ogun State Security Network, popularly known as Amotekun, and the So-Safe Corps, in addressing security challenges across the state.

On the cash transfer programme, Abiodun said the initiative was designed to provide financial support to vulnerable households affected by rising living costs.

He announced that the programme would commence in Sagamu, adding that identified beneficiaries would receive payment notifications. He further stated that the initiative would be extended to other communities in Remoland and subsequently across Ogun State.

The governor also announced plans to provide boreholes across the state’s 236 wards as part of efforts to improve access to clean water and strengthen basic infrastructure.

The announcements form part of the state government’s proposed interventions in security, social welfare and infrastructure development ahead of the 2027 budget.
