Akarigbo Invites Sons and Daughters Home for Sagamu Day
Oba (Dr.) Babatunde Adewale Ajayi, CFR, LLB, LLM, FCA, FBR, Torungbuwa II, Akarigbo and Paramount Ruler of Remo Land, has invited residents and indigenes to take part in this year’s Sagamu Day celebrations on October 10.
With the countdown underway, the monarch described Sagamu Day as more than an annual event, saying it offers an opportunity to celebrate the town’s heritage, reconnect with loved ones and reflect on its future.
“Sagamu has a story built by many hands,” Oba Ajayi said. “Our ancestors gave this town its character and entrusted us with a heritage to protect. Today, the responsibility of carrying that story forward rests with all of us.”
He encouraged people living in Sagamu, those who have moved elsewhere and everyone who holds the town close to their heart to return and participate. He also urged residents to invite friends and bring their children to experience the celebration.
This year’s programme will include traditional festival rites, an Emiripo Night on Friday and a grand finale on Saturday. The Akarigbo promised that the celebration would be different from those held in previous years, describing it as an exciting occasion for the community.
The monarch said he looked forward to welcoming Sagamu’s sons and daughters home, adding that the event should extend beyond entertainment. He called on the community to use the gathering to strengthen connections, honour its shared history and consider the kind of Sagamu it hopes to build for future generations.
“Let us make this year’s celebration about more than festivities; let it be a time to reconnect, celebrate our heritage and reflect on the Sagamu we want to build and leave for the generations after us,” he said.
As October approaches, the message from the Akarigbo is clear: Sagamu is calling its people home. He urged everyone to join the celebrations and help make this year’s Sagamu Day a memorable occasion.
