Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho has been named the best player of the opening eight rounds of Turkey’s 1. Lig, following an impressive start to life with Bursaspor.
The award was announced on beIN SPORTS’ 1. Lig programme, where presenter Turgay Keskin and commentator Tunç Kayacı also selected Bursaspor as the competition’s best team over the same period.
Iheanacho, 29, has scored 11 goals and supplied two assists in eight league appearances. He has found the net in every match since joining the club as a free agent this summer, quickly becoming a central figure in Bursaspor’s push for promotion.
The forward’s goals have helped his side collect six wins and a draw from their first eight fixtures. Bursaspor sit top of the second-tier standings with 19 points.
His most recent goals came in a 2-1 comeback victory against Batman Petrolspor on September 19. Iheanacho scored twice, including the winning goal in the 85th minute. The brace extended his scoring streak to eight consecutive league matches and brought him level with a Bursaspor club record set by former striker Fernandao in the 2014/15 season.
Iheanacho’s form has also earned him a return to the Super Eagles. Nigeria coach Eric Chelle included the striker in the squad for the national team’s friendly against Russia on October 6.
The former Leicester City player joined Bursaspor after leaving Celtic, where he won the Scottish league and cup double last season. Before his spell in Scotland, he played for Sevilla and Middlesbrough.
His rapid impact in Turkey has strengthened Bursaspor’s early promotion challenge, with the club leading the table after eight rounds. The individual recognition from beIN SPORTS adds to a remarkable opening stretch for the Nigerian international, whose goals have arrived consistently since the start of the campaign.
