Carragher Calls for Strategic Changes Ahead of England’s Euro 2024 Decider

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has urged England manager Gareth Southgate to make bold tactical changes by dropping Phil Foden and Trent Alexander-Arnold for the Three Lions’ crucial final group game against Slovenia at Euro 2024.

This call comes in the wake of England’s challenging 1-1 draw against Denmark on Thursday. With four points, England currently leads Group C and needs a win or a draw against Slovenia on Tuesday to secure a spot in the Round of 16.

In his column for The Telegraph, Carragher emphasized the necessity of sacrificing two of the Premier League’s top talents to enhance the team’s performance. “Unfortunately, two of the best Premier League footballers – Trent Alexander-Arnold and Phil Foden – will have to be sacrificed now. The team’s set-up is not getting the best from them, or their team-mates. Introducing Alexander-Arnold into midfield in a major tournament was always a risk. It has not worked,” he wrote.

Carragher also shared his vision for the attacking formation, suggesting a 4-3-3 lineup to optimize the team’s dynamics. “I would like to see a 4-3-3 with Saka and Anthony Gordon either side of Kane,” he added
