David Okafor Emerges NANS Turkish Zone President
David Okafor of Girne American University has been elected President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Turkish Zone, for the 2026/2027 academic year.
Okafor emerged at the 2026 NANS Turkish Zone National Convention held on September 12 at Cyprus International University, where delegates, chapter representatives and other stakeholders participated in the election.
Other officers elected include Mustafa Adamu as Vice-President, External Affairs; Adebayo Emmanuel as Vice-President, Special Duties; Jude Alabi as Secretary-General; Festus Ikenuo as Assistant Secretary-General; Collins Egheneji as Chief of Staff; and Victory Agberia as Financial Secretary.
In his acceptance speech, Okafor pledged to promote grassroots participation and build on the achievements of the previous administration.
The new leadership is expected to focus on student representation, unity, transparency and the academic and social welfare of Nigerian students in Türkiye and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
The election marks a new administration for the NANS Turkish Zone following the tenure of Daniel Okpala, who led the association during the 2025/2026 academic year.
