Dowman Brace Sends Arsenal Into Carabao Cup Fourth Round
Sixteen-year-old Max Dowman scored twice as Arsenal defeated Ipswich Town 4-2 at Portman Road on Tuesday to book their place in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup.
Dowman opened the scoring in the seventh minute before Noni Madueke doubled Arsenal’s lead nine minutes later. The teenager struck again in the 47th minute, shortly after the restart, to put Arsenal 3-0 ahead.
Mikel Merino added Arsenal’s fourth in the 58th minute, leaving Ipswich with a difficult task. The hosts pulled one back through Anis Mehmeti in the 62nd minute, while former Arsenal forward Chuba Akpom scored in the first minute of stoppage time.
Arsenal held on for a 4-2 victory and progressed to the last 16 of the competition, with Dowman’s two-goal performance the standout feature of the third-round tie.
