Eguavoen Named Interim Super Falcons Coach as Nigeria Face Comoros in Ikenne

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has appointed former Super Eagles coach Augustine Eguavoen as interim head coach of the Super Falcons ahead of Nigeria’s 2028 Olympic Games qualifying campaign.

Eguavoen will lead the 10-time African champions in their second-round, two-legged qualifier against Comoros, with both matches scheduled for the Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne-Remo, on October 9 and 13, 2026.

Nigeria received a bye into the second round as one of the three highest-ranked teams in the qualifying competition, while Comoros advanced after defeating Sudan 30–0 on aggregate, following 17–0 and 13–0 victories in the two legs.

The NFF said the search for a substantive Super Falcons head coach is continuing. Eguavoen will be assisted by Christopher Danjuma, Olatunji Baruwa and former Super Falcons defender Ayisat Yusuf.

Nigeria must progress through four knockout rounds to secure one of Africa’s two places at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

The appointment places Eguavoen in charge of the Falcons for a crucial opening tie, with the first of the two Ikenne fixtures scheduled for October 9.
