Falconets Draw China, Face Tough Battle for Knockout Spot
Nigeria’s Falconets played out a goalless draw with China in their second Group F match at the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Poland on Thursday, leaving their qualification hopes finely balanced.
The result earned Nigeria their first point of the tournament after they suffered a 2-0 defeat to Spain in their opening game. China, meanwhile, moved to four points after previously defeating New Caledonia 5-0.
Spain currently lead Group F with six points and a +13 goal difference after an emphatic 11-0 victory over New Caledonia, while China sit second with four points and a +5 goal difference. Nigeria are third with one point.
The Falconets will play New Caledonia in their final group match on Sunday, September 13. A victory would significantly strengthen Nigeria’s chances of advancing to the Round of 16, with the four best third-placed teams also progressing to the knockout stage.
Nigeria will therefore need a strong result in their final group fixture and will also be watching the outcome of the other Group F match between China and Spain.
