FG Set to Launch New Satellite, NigComSat-2, to Boost Economy

 

The Federal Government has announced plans to launch a new satellite, NigComSat-2, aimed at stimulating critical sectors of the economy and driving economic growth.

Speaking at a capacity training session for journalists organized by the Nigerian Communications Satellite Ltd (NIGCOMSAT), the company’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mrs. Jane Nkechi Egerton-Idehen, revealed that the government is fully committed to launching the new satellite.

Although no specific timeline was given, Egerton-Idehen, who was represented by the Assistant General Manager, Communications, Aisha Bantam, assured that the launch will take place within the shortest possible time. According to her, NigComSat-2 will significantly enhance NIGCOMSAT’s capacity to deliver robust, high-speed communication services across Nigeria and beyond. The satellite will support a wide range of applications, including broadband internet, telemedicine, and e-learning, among others.

The new satellite is expected to enable NIGCOMSAT to better serve critical sectors such as agriculture, security, health, and education, driving economic growth and improving the quality of life for Nigerians. The launch of NigComSat-2 is expected to advance Nigeria’s space capabilities and promote economic development.
