Fire devastates newly established female hostel at Sokoto University.
A newly built female hostel at Sokoto State University was consumed by flames on Tuesday, causing alarm within the university community.
The fire broke out around 3:30 p.m. and completely destroyed the structure, which was intended to alleviate the accommodation issues faced by students.
The cause of the blaze remains unknown, as a student stated, “We don’t know what started the fire yet.” Fortunately, there were no students inside the hostel at the time, as they had been relocated following instructions from the university. “The students who were originally assigned to this hostel had been moved to the old hostel. Only the school authorities can explain why,” the student added.
The Students’ Union President confirmed the incident, mentioning that firefighters arrived at the scene around 5:00 p.m. to combat the flames. As of now, university officials have not released an official statement regarding the situation.
