Future Leaders in Action: Friends of Ronzls Foundation Celebrates Grand Finale Annual Quiz and Spelling Bee Competition

The Sagamu Local Government Multipurpose Hall, Makun, Sagamu, was filled with excitement, anticipation, and celebration on Thursday, June 4, 2026, as the Friends of Ronzls Foundation hosted the grand finale of its 2026 Annual Quiz and Spelling Bee Competition, bringing together pupils, teachers, parents, education stakeholders, and traditional leaders from across Remo communities.

The event commenced with the Master of Ceremony Mr. Tunde, Team leader Friends of Ronzls foundation who warmly welcomed participants and guests to the highly anticipated grand finale.

To formally open the event, three students representing Remo North, Sagamu, and Ikene Local Government Areas were invited to render the National Anthem and Ogun State Anthem.

The 14 finalists who qualified for the grand finale were subsequently introduced. They included Jamiu Lateef of Wesley Primary School 1, Oko; Shonubi Rebecca of Wesley Primary School 2, Oko; Felix Jeremiah of Local Government Primary School, Makun; Oyetade Abuwahab of St. Paul Primary School, Ayetoro; Ismail Saadu of Local Government Primary School Sabo I, Agura; Adesanya Fatiu of Local Government Primary School Sabo I, Agura; Hammed Munirat of African Church Primary School, Ewu Oloja; Sunday Dominion of Wesley Primary School, Sotunbo; Salaudeen Adijat of Christ Church Primary School, Ode-Remo; Oluwade Dorcas of African Bethel Primary School, Ode-Remo; Adejo Ileri Oluwa of African Church Bethel Primary School, Ilisan; Fajolu Semilore of Ansar Ur Deen Primary School, Ikene; Oluwagbemi Samuel of St. John Anglican Primary School III, Fakale Ogijo; and Abdulraheem Abdullahi of St. Michael Primary School, Ogijo.

Delivering the welcome address, the Founder of Friends of Ronzls Foundation, Chief Mrs. Ola Sulaimon, welcomed parents, teachers, and pupils on behalf of her husband, Chief Mr. Sulaimon. She reflected on the establishment of the foundation seven years ago, and the impact on the competition from six years back, highlighting its growth from donating library equipment to schools, beginning with 10 schools, expanding to 20 schools, and eventually reaching over 80 schools. She described the event as an opportunity to create lasting memories and encouraged parents not to give up on their children, emphasizing the importance of nurturing and supporting young learners.

Team Leader of Friends of Ronzls Foundation, Mr.Tunde later welcomed the Royal Father of the Day, His Royal Highness Oba Musiliu Oriyomi Soile, the Radanua of Idado. He also acknowledged the presence of several head teachers and education stakeholders who graced the occasion, including Mrs. Aluko E.A. of Wesley Primary School, Sotunbo; Mrs. Odumosu B.B. of AUD Primary School, Odelemo; Mrs. Agbeja J.A. of St. Paul Anglican Primary School, Ayetoro Makun; Mrs. Adetayo A.C. of Local Government School, Ijagba Sagamu; Mrs. Akinbiyi Mary A. of MMAN UBEC/SUBEB Smart School, Ikenne; Mr. Salako; and Mrs. Busari A.A.

One of the distinguished head teachers, Mrs. Busari A.A., Head Teacher General, Remo, was invited to welcome students and parents to the event. The presence of Mrs. Rabiu E.O., an Education Specialist, and several other dignitaries was also recognized.

Before the commencement of the main competition, eleven students from different schools entertained the audience through engaging word games.

Addressing the gathering, HRH Oba Musiliu Oriyomi Soile encouraged the students to remain focused and dedicated to their studies. He described them as future leaders and urged them to continue striving for excellence in their academic pursuits.

A special recognition segment followed, during which Chief Mrs. Ola Sulaimon invited the Royal Father to present a Special Recognition Award to Mrs. H.O. Oredeko in appreciation of her dedication and unwavering support to the Friends of Ronzls Foundation over the years.

The competition then officially commenced with the quiz segment. Contestants were guided through the rules of the competition before proceeding into the first and second rounds. The format later transitioned into a mathematics challenge, with adjustments made to the rules to suit the category.

The spelling bee segment followed, beginning with seven-letter words before advancing through science-related questions, eight-letter words, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), general knowledge questions, and nine-letter words.

Throughout the competition, the team leader, Mr. Tunde of Friends of Ronzls engaged students in the audience by inviting them to spell words and participate in interactive sessions. As the contest intensified, finalists progressed to ten-letter words. Following the collation of results, judges observed a tie and invited four students to participate in an additional spelling round to determine the final standings. During the event, students were also encouraged to appreciate the Founder for her continuous contributions and support towards education and community development.

The award presentation ceremony commenced with recognitions for contestants who finished in joint 13th position, followed by awards for students placed 12th, 11th, 10th, 9th, 8th, and 7th positions. Awards were also presented to contestants who tied for 6th place. The 5th-place contestant recorded a total score of 60 points, while the 4th-place contestant secured 62 points.

Emerging in third place was Abdulraheem Abdullahi of St. Michael Primary School, Fakale Ogijo, who scored 63 points. He received a school bag, an award plaque, and a cash prize of ₦60,000. Abdulraheem also finished third in the spelling bee competition and was additionally presented with a dictionary.

In a demonstration of inclusiveness, a special prize was also awarded to a pupil from the School for Special Needs, Makun.

Second place went to Hammed Munirat of African Church Nursery and Primary School, Ewu Oloja, who scored 65 points. She was presented with a school bag, an award, books, and a cash prize of ₦88,000.

The highlight of the day came when Sunday Dominion of Wesley Primary School, Sotunbo, emerged as the overall winner of the 2026 Friends of Ronzls Foundation Annual Quiz and Spelling Bee Competition with an impressive score of 70 points. He was rewarded with a school bag, an award plaque, a dictionary, and a grand cash prize of ₦160,000.

Additional gifts and appreciation packages were presented to students who recorded outstanding performances during the early stages of the competition, further underscoring the foundation’s commitment to encouraging academic excellence among young learners.

The event concluded on a celebratory note, with participants, teachers, parents, and guests commending the Friends of Ronzls Foundation for its sustained investment in education and youth development across Remo communities.
