Ghana Repatriates 120 Nigerians Rescued in Cybercrime Crackdown

Ghana has repatriated 120 Nigerian nationals arrested during a cybercrime operation, amid allegations they were trafficked to the country and forced to work in cybercrime operations.

Ghana’s Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Sam George, announced the repatriation on X on Tuesday, thanking the Ghana Air Force and Ministry of Defence for assisting.

The operation, codenamed Operation Cyberhunt, was led by Ghana’s Cyber Security Authority in collaboration with security and intelligence agencies in Ghana, Nigeria, the United Kingdom and the United States.

Authorities seized 136 mobile phones, 130 laptops, internet connectivity devices and four vehicles. One vehicle was reportedly stolen from Canada. Investigators also recovered other digital equipment, jewellery and 10 Nigerian passports.

George said eight additional individuals were being processed for prosecution as investigations continued. He added that Ghana would not serve as a safe haven for cybercriminals.
