Ikeja Electric Announces Tariff Reduction for Band A Customers

Ikeja Electric (IE) has announced a reduction in its Band A tariff from N225/KWh to N206.80/kWh, following a supplementary order issued by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) in May 2024. This represents an 8.1 percent reduction on the previous rate and takes immediate effect from May 6, 2024.

The reduction applies to Band A customers, who receive a minimum of 20 hours of daily supply. According to IE’s Head of Corporate Communications, Kingsley Okotie, the utility is committed to complying with regulatory directives, which are in the best interest of all parties. Okotie assured customers of continued improvement in service delivery, striving to provide a better quality of service.

The tariff reduction comes after the previous announcement of a tariff increase on April 3, 2024, which was met with criticism from Nigerians. Last week, the House of Representatives ordered NERC to reverse the increase. The tariff for Bands B, C, D, and E remains unchanged.

In a statement, IE informed its esteemed customers of the downward tariff review, effective May 6, 2024, with a guaranteed availability of 20-24 hours supply daily. The utility’s compliance with the regulatory directive is expected to bring relief to Band A customers, who will now pay a lower rate for their electricity consumption.
