Ikenne LG Chairman Asimi Joins Ilishan-Remo for 49th Isanbi Day, Hails Economic Revival Drive

Ikenne Local Government Chairman, Hon. Jamiu Mohammed Asimi, joined traditional and community leaders on October 3, 2026, at Ilishan High School grounds for the grand finale of the 49th Isanbi Day and homecoming celebration, themed “Leveraging Legacy for Economic Revival”.

 

The chairman was among top dignitaries welcomed to the high table by Master of Ceremonies Wunmi W. Okulaja, popularly known as MC Adaptor, as guests rose to honour the royal father, Oba Michael Olufemi Mojeed Sonuga, Daniyan II, the Olofin of Ilishan-Remo.

 

Other attendees included the representative of Ogun State’s First Lady Mrs Bamidele Abiodun, Mrs Comfort Odunlami of the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development; Ogun State Governship Aspirant 2027, under the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) Honourable (Dr) Ladi Adebutu; Otunba Tunji Lawal Solar; Monarchs of Remoland; Ilishan Development Association Chairman Hon. Rotimi Williams Osinowo; Chairman of the Day Bobajiro Antony Bandele Osibodu; Aare Adetola Emmanuelking, Philanthropist and son of the source; Local Organising Committee Chairman Tunji Amokade; and Miss Isanbi 2026, Queen Opeyemi Zainab Jinadu.

 

In his remarks, Hon. Asimi commended the Ilishan community for sustaining Isanbi Day for 49 years as a platform for heritage, unity and development. He aligned with the 2026 theme, noting that Ilishan’s rich history and strategic location, alongside projects such as the Gateway Airport, position the town for economic growth.

 

The Local Government Chairman also demonstrated his administration’s support for the celebration with a donation of *₦500,000*. Other donations announced at the event included ₦1.5 million from Erelu Mowunmi Sotunbo, ₦1 million from the Gent Club, and ₦100,000 from the Igbo community.

 

The event featured rich cultural displays by numerous clubs, age grades and associations, including the Gent Club, which emerged first, followed by Egbe Omowunmi and Egbe Arowolo. Sponsors acknowledged included Adron Homes, Leadway, Indomie and Mouka Foam.

 

In his welcome address, IDA Chairman Osinowo described Isanbi Day as a powerful expression of shared heritage for residents and the diaspora. Oba Sonuga, in his royal address, thanked Governor Dapo Abiodun, First Lady Mrs Abiodun, and Ilishan sons and daughters for their contributions. He highlighted the donation of a royal palace by Adron Homes founder Sir Adetola Olaniyi Olanipekun, pledged at ₦500 million and slated for commissioning on October 26, 2026, and an initial ₦500 million commitment by the Hassan Odukale family for the renovation of the community hospital.

 

The programme also featured the launch of a project to install ten relief transformers, an opening prayer by the town’s chief imam, rendition of the national, Ogun State and Ilishan anthems, and a review of week-long activities by LOC Chairman Amokade, including food and dance competitions, pageant, quiz and debate, sports, health outreach and youth empowerment.

 

Awards were presented to the Gent Club, Ilishan teachers, Adron Homes’ chief executive and Professor Olutayo Shokunbi. The celebration ended with a performance by Alhaji Alabi Pasuma and a vote of thanks by Osinowo.

 

Hon. Asimi’s presence and support were described by organisers as a reflection of the local government’s commitment to culture-led community development and economic revival in Ikenne Local Government.
