Ikenne Security Meeting: Stakeholders Call for Stronger Collaboration Ahead of Election
IKENNE, OGUN STATE — Stakeholders in Ikenne Local Government Area of Ogun State have called for stronger collaboration among security agencies, traditional rulers, community leaders and youths to strengthen security ahead of the forthcoming election.
The call was made on Monday, September 14, 2026, at a Peace and Security Meeting held at the Ikenne Local Government Secretariat.
The meeting was attended by the Executive Chairman of Ikenne Local Government, H.E. Jamiu Asimi Mohammed, Vice Chairman, Hon. Ifetayo Ifede, traditional rulers and representatives, as well as officials of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Nigeria Police Force, DSS, Immigration, NDLEA, Amotekun and community groups.
Discussions focused on recent security concerns across the Local Government, including kidnapping, cultism, drug abuse, activities of commercial motorcycle operators, movement of unfamiliar persons and migrants, as well as vulnerable locations such as markets, dumpsites and bush paths.
The Executive Chairman urged residents, traditional institutions and community leaders to see security as a collective responsibility and promptly share credible information with security agencies.
He also disclosed plans to address concerns surrounding the Ikenne dumpsite through further engagement with relevant stakeholders, including the Ministry of Environment.
The Chairman further revealed plans to reclaim and improve the Ilisan market, which he said would provide a more suitable environment for legitimate activities and enhance security monitoring within the area.
Meanwhile, the representative of the Ologere of Ogere raised concerns over security challenges around the Ogere/Toll Gate, Taborah, Mile 12 New Market and Ajura-Ogere axis, including activities around the dumpsite, scavenging and difficult terrains.
He also highlighted the increasing migrant population in the Ogere area and expressed the willingness of the Ologere to support the establishment of an additional NSCDC divisional office in Ogere to improve security coverage.
In his contribution, the Area Commander, NSCDC Remo II Area Command, ACC Oludotun Ayoola Farayola, stressed the importance of protecting Critical National Infrastructure across communities.
He cited the recent recovery of a stolen trailer truck and vandalised railway tracks around the Isara/Ipara axis, noting that the success was aided by timely information and community cooperation.
Farayola urged traditional rulers, community leaders and youths to promptly report suspected vandalism, theft and other suspicious activities around government infrastructure.
He also disclosed that efforts were ongoing towards perfecting the proposed Civil Defence office at Ogere.
Stakeholders agreed on the need for regular security meetings and stronger information-sharing among security agencies and community stakeholders. A dedicated security information-sharing platform was also proposed, with emphasis on verifying information before circulation.
The meeting further called for increased security coordination around schools following the commencement of the new academic session.
Stakeholders reaffirmed their commitment to collective responsibility, timely intelligence-sharing and stronger inter-agency collaboration to protect lives and property and maintain peace across Ikenne Local Government Area.
