The Independent National Electoral Commission will brief Nigerians on its preparations for the 2027 general elections at a national stakeholders’ meeting and press conference on Tuesday, marking 100 days until the polls.
The event, scheduled for 10am at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja, will be led by INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, alongside representatives of organisations involved in the electoral process.
In a statement obtained on Sunday, the commission said it would provide updates on the voters’ register, candidate nominations, election logistics and measures to protect the integrity of the polls.
INEC said the meeting would also strengthen engagement with institutions and groups whose work is important to the conduct and security of the elections. The commission described the gathering as part of its commitment to transparency, timely public communication and cooperation across the electoral sector.
Expected participants include political party leaders, security agencies represented on the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security, diplomats, development partners, civil society organisations and election observers. Disability rights advocates, religious and traditional leaders, youth groups and media executives have also been invited.
The meeting comes as election preparations enter a crucial phase. INEC must complete administrative, logistical and technological arrangements before voters go to the polls. The commission’s statement did not say whether it would announce changes to the electoral timetable or provide details of any new measures.
Proceedings will be broadcast live on major national television networks and streamed through INEC’s official social media channels, allowing the public to follow the discussions.
Attendance at the venue will be by invitation only. INEC said invited guests and accredited journalists must present their invitation cards or accreditation badges at security checkpoints.
The commission said the meeting would give Nigerians and other electoral stakeholders an opportunity to hear directly about its readiness for the elections as the final 100-day period begins.
