Iperu Begins Preparations for Emergence of New Alaperu
Preparations are ongoing in Iperu, Ogun State, towards the emergence of a new Alaperu following the death of the former monarch, Oba Adeleke Adelekan Idowu-Basibo (Odoru V), in February 2025.
The development comes as stakeholders in the traditional community continue activities connected with the succession to the vacant stool. On September 17, 2026, the Ikenne Local Government held a meeting with traditional leaders, representatives of the Iperu Development Association and members of the Fibigbuwa royal family on preparations for the emergence and installation of the next traditional ruler.
The late Alaperu, who reigned for more than two decades, died in February 2025. His death was officially acknowledged by the Ogun State Government and other public figures, including President Bola Tinubu, who paid tribute to his contributions to Iperu-Remo.
The succession process is expected to involve the relevant traditional institutions and stakeholders in accordance with the established customs governing the Alaperu stool.
While a video circulating on social media has been described as showing traditional rites connected with the nomination process, the specific claim that the exercise was formally led by Chief Adekunle Awokoya, the Odi of Iperu, could not be independently confirmed from an official statement or other reliable source.
The emergence of a new Alaperu therefore remains a developing traditional and community process, with stakeholders expected to follow the established procedures for filling the vacant stool.
