IPERU INDIGENES FORUM FELICITATES SONS AND DAUGHTERS OF IPERU ON THE CELEBRATION OF THE MAIDEN EYO CARNIVAL, CALLS ON GOVERNMENT TO LIST EYO IPERU ANCESTRY AS A WORLD HERITAGE SITE

The Iperu Indigenes Forum has expressed warm felicitations to all sons and daughters of Iperu Akesanland on the historic occasion of the maiden edition of the Eyo Iperu Akesan Carnival, scheduled to hold on Saturday, 25th April, 2026, at the Christ Apostolic Geammar School, Iperu Remo.

The forum in a statement jointly signed by the Convener, Prince Ladi OLABINJO; Administrators, High Chief Barr. Ifasola Saheed OPEODU (the Oluwo of Iperu), and Otunba Adebayo SALAMI; as well as the Media Officer, Temitope OYEKAN; the Forum commended the community for deeming it fit to revive and celebrate this rich cultural heritage in its place of origin. This maiden carnival marks a significant milestone in reclaiming and showcasing the authentic history and identity of the Eyo tradition.

We call on all sons and daughters of Iperu Akesanland, both at home and in the diaspora, to return and participate actively in this landmark celebration. It is a unique opportunity to reconnect with our roots, celebrate our heritage, and project the cultural pride of Iperu to the world.

The Forum also applauds the planning committee, ably led by Omooba Taiwo ‘Gbenga OWOKALADE, for its ingenuity, dedication, and commitment in bringing this historic event to fruition. We further extend our greetings to all participating groups (Iga Eyo) whose enthusiasm and support have added colour and vibrancy to this maiden edition.

We pay profound homage to the Iperu Regency Council, the Iperu Royal Fathers, Baales, Olorituns, and all stakeholders for their staunch solidarity and support toward the success of this cultural renaissance.

In addition, the Forum calls on the Ogun State Government, under the leadership of its illustrious son, Prince Dapo ABIODUN, CON, to take deliberate steps toward securing the recognition of the Iperu Eyo Ancestry as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Such recognition will not only preserve this invaluable cultural legacy but also boost tourism and further position Iperu prominently on the global map, building on the strides already made with the Gateway International Airport, Iperu.

It will be recalled that the ancient town of Iperu holds a distinguished place in cultural history as the origin and original ancestry of the revered Eyo tradition. What has today become a globally recognized cultural spectacle traces its roots back to Iperu, where it has long been celebrated before evolving into a cultural export to other communities and states.

“The Iperu Indigenes Forum remains committed to the promotion, preservation, and global projection of Iperu’s cultural heritage”, the statement concluded
