Ivory Coast, Equatorial Guinea Seal AFCON 2025 Spot

 

 

 

The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign intensified Wednesday, with holders Ivory Coast and Equatorial Guinea securing spots in Morocco.

 

Ivory Coast’s qualification was sealed after Sierra Leone’s 1-1 draw with Chad, while Equatorial Guinea benefited from Liberia’s 1-0 victory over Togo.

 

Ivory Coast, leading Group G with nine points from four matches, is assured of finishing in the top two. Zambia trails behind with seven points from four games, while Sierra Leone’s slim hopes hang by a thread with five points and one match remaining. Chad has been eliminated.

 

In Group E, Liberia’s win over Togo sealed Equatorial Guinea’s qualification. Equatorial Guinea sits comfortably on seven points from four matches, while Liberia and Togo have four and two points respectively. Equatorial Guinea’s coach, Juan Micha, expressed excitement: “We’re ecstatic. Our team’s resilience paid off.”

 

Algeria, Cameroon, Angola, Burkina Faso, Democratic Republic of Congo, Egypt, Morocco (hosts), and Senegal join Ivory Coast and Equatorial Guinea in the finals.

 

Nine additional qualifiers are scheduled for Thursday, with Nigeria, Sudan, and Tunisia poised to secure their spots.
