Late Hon. Adewunmi Oriyomi Onanuga Laid to Rest in Emotional Funeral

The final farewell for Rt. Hon. Adewunmi Oriyomi Onanuga, fondly known as ‘Ijaya’, took place on Friday, January 24, 2025, in an emotional funeral ceremony. Friends, family, and political associates gathered to bid their last respects to the late politician, whose impactful role in politics and society was evident in the substantial turnout of attendees.
The burial, which followed Islamic rites, took place at her country home in Ewuga. Prior to the final interment, her remains were brought to the Sagamu Central Mosque on Ewusi Road for Islamic burial prayers, where a large gathering of mourners paid their respects.
As the Deputy Chief Whip of the 10th National Assembly, Ijaya represented the Remo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives in Abuja. Her dedication to her constituents and her tireless advocacy for women’s empowerment and social welfare earned her admiration and respect from colleagues and constituents alike.
The solemn event was attended by dignitaries, top politicians, high chiefs, and esteemed leaders from across the country, highlighting Ijaya’s profound influence in her community and beyond. The final farewell was attended by an array of dignitaries, including Governor Dapo Abiodun, Rt. Hon. Femi gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to the President, who represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu; Rt. Hon. Speaker Abbas, Speaker of the House of Representatives; members of the National and State Assemblies; former Governor Gbenga Daniel; and other esteemed leaders and stakeholders.
Ijaya’s passing marks the end of an era in local politics, leaving behind a legacy that will long be remembered by those she served.
