Lawyer to VeryDarkMan Laments Delay in Client’s Release from EFCC Custody
Deji Adeyanju, lawyer to social media personality Martins Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, has expressed frustration over the difficulty in securing his client’s release from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) custody despite being granted administrative bail.
According to the EFCC, VeryDarkMan was invited for questioning over allegations of financial crimes and was arrested after failing to honor repeated invitations. The commission stated that he would be released after fulfilling his bail conditions.
However, Adeyanju claimed that his legal team has been unable to access the documents detailing the bail conditions, despite repeated requests. “Bail granted VDM, social media bail, as we are yet to receive any bail document from the commission,” he said.
The EFCC has maintained that the arrest was lawful and not in retaliation for VeryDarkMan’s criticisms of the commission on social media. The commission urged the public to allow it to carry out its constitutional responsibilities without interference.
