Negbuwa of Ibido Sagamu Debunks Dethronement Rumors, Addresses Allegations

Clarifying the rumors surrounding his alleged dethronement, the Negbuwa of Ibido, H.R.H Alayeluwa Oba Kolawole Adesina Adeyemi, welcomed our correspondent into his palace for an exclusive interview. The King addressed several allegations, including being charged to the high court for indiscriminate sale of land and disregarding traditional practices.

The King vehemently denied the rumors of his dethronement, stating, “All the rumors you’ve heard are all lies, it has no element of truth.” He explained that the rumors had been circulating for over a week ago, but emphasized that they were baseless and unfounded.

Regarding the court case, the King revealed that he was indeed charged to court, but the case had been filed since 2022. He explained that the claimant, Prince Olokun Agbeja Awobo Solamade, was seeking the throne, but the hearing had not yet commenced. The King clarified that the recent court invitation was due to a motion filed by the claimant to stop his coronation ceremony, which had already taken place.

The King provided further clarification on the court’s verdict, stating that Honourable Justice Tajudeen A. Okunsokan had given his verdict on the carrying out of the coronation ceremony. He emphasized that the main case had not yet been heard, and the claimant’s entitlement to the throne had not been established.

Addressing another rumor, the King denied relieving any chiefs of their duties, saying, “I didn’t remove any chief from office, it’s all lies. Any of the chiefs that claims I relieved him of his duty should come out to say it.”

He also explained his participation in traditional practices, saying, “Personally, if I don’t like to participate in Isese Day as an individual, there will be no fight whatsoever, however, this position/seat I find myself warrants I am a part of every of the practices of the land; As it stands, I’m carrying the ‘load’ of the people, besides I didn’t sign up to be a Pastor, I’m the King of Ibido Kingdom hence, I practice Isese”.

The King further explained his efforts to ensure peaceful demonstrations and celebrations of cultural practices, stating that he had written to the Police Department to join in the festivals and prevent uproar. He emphasized that he had gone extra miles to ensure the success of each festival, despite some individuals trying to disrupt them.

Regarding land sales, the King stated categorically, “I didn’t sell any land. If any individual claims I did, he should come tender the receipt at my palace here.” Instead, he revealed that he had taken legal action against individuals selling land indiscriminately in his town, stating, “I, Negbuwa of Ibido charged some people to court for the indiscriminate selling of land in my town, and we are still in court until this moment.”

The King reaffirmed his position, saying, “I remain, Oba Alayeluwa Kolawole Adesina Adeyemi, Negbuwa of Ibido.” He provided evidence of the ruling for further clarification, cementing his stance as the rightful King of Ibido Kingdom.
