Ogun Begins N6bn Disbursement to 3,855 Women Groups

The Ogun State Government, in collaboration with the Federal Government and the World Bank, has commenced the disbursement of a ₦6 billion Community Investment Fund to 3,855 Women Affinity Groups under the Nigeria for Women Programme Scale-Up.
The fund is targeted at supporting women-led businesses, strengthening household livelihoods and expanding women’s participation in economic activities.
The disbursement was flagged off in Ijebu-Ode on Wednesday, with Governor Dapo Abiodun represented by the immediate-past Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Motunrayo Adijat Adeleye.
The governor said the intervention was designed to help women move from subsistence activities to more sustainable enterprises. He noted that beneficiary groups had met key programme requirements, including regular participation, savings, internal lending, bank account operations and preparation of Micro-Investment Plans.
Abiodun also disclosed that participating women had collectively saved ₦2.6 billion over seven months, while loans accessed through the groups had exceeded ₦4 billion.
He clarified that the ₦6 billion Community Investment Fund is not an outright grant, but a revolving financing facility intended to provide capital for establishing and expanding businesses, generating income and employment, and improving household welfare.
The Nigeria for Women Programme Scale-Up has expanded to seven local government areas in Ogun — Ifo, Ado-Odo/Ota, Ijebu-Ode, Sagamu, Abeokuta North, Ipokia and Remo North. According to the governor, 5,394 Women Affinity Groups had been formed under the Scale-Up phase, reaching 124,062 women as of September 21, 2026.
The programme also provides beneficiaries with financial literacy, savings and responsible borrowing skills, entrepreneurship training, gender awareness and life-skills support.
