Ogun Deep Sea Port Construction to Begin in November — Dapo Abiodun
Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has announced that construction of the proposed Gateway Deep Sea Port and Ogun State Blue Marine Special Economic Zone in Ogun Waterside will commence in November 2026.
Abiodun disclosed this while addressing All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders in Ijebu East and Ijebu North Local Government Areas, days after the Ogun State Government signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with DP World MEA FZE in Paris.
According to the governor, the project will be officially flagged off with a groundbreaking ceremony in November, after which construction is expected to begin immediately. He also said the port could be substantially completed within two and a half years.
The development follows the September 24 signing of agreements between Ogun State and DP World for the Gateway Deep Sea Port and the proposed 10,000-hectare Ogun State Blue Marine Special Economic Zone. The signing was witnessed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The agreements envisage an initial investment of more than $7 billion across the port and special economic zone projects. The proposed port is planned with a four-kilometre berth and an 18-metre draft, with the Federal Government and project partners expected to support infrastructure and connectivity around the development.
Abiodun said the project is expected to strengthen Ogun State’s maritime economy, attract investment and create employment opportunities, while positioning Ogun Waterside as a major maritime and trade hub in West Africa.
