Ogun Governor Approves Appointment of 1,200 Aides to Strengthen Grassroots Governance

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has approved the appointment of 1,200 political aides to act as change agents and promote civic engagement across the state.

This was announced in a statement on Friday by the governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade.

According to him, the move underscores Abiodun’s consistent commitment to participatory governance since taking office in 2019.

The administration has continually emphasized inclusivity, grassroots development, and citizen involvement as key pillars of its policies.

Abiodun was said to have described the move as a strategic effort to strengthen democratic governance across all nooks and crannies of the state.

Akinmade explained, “The assistants — five from each of the 236 wards in Ogun State — will ensure greater local participation in governance, effectively bridging the gap between the grassroots and the state government.

“The newly appointed political assistants are to support the delivery of democratic dividends, articulate the needs of their respective wards, and communicate these needs to the state government.

“They are also tasked with ensuring effective feedback flow between the government and the wards,” he stated.

He noted that the initiative delivers on Governor Abiodun’s campaign pledge to involve every ward in the state’s development agenda and to run an inclusive government that prioritizes citizens’ contributions in policy-making and implementation.

The state government further charged the new aides to play active roles in advancing the growth and development of their wards, local councils, and the state as a whole.
