President Tinubu disagrees with catholic bishop’s claims on economic reforms
The Presidency has pushed back against concerns raised by the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) regarding the nation’s challenges, assuring Nigerians that the country is making significant progress under President Bola Tinubu.
According to Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, the Tinubu administration has achieved notable successes in security, economic stability, and youth empowerment, despite some remaining governance challenges.
The Presidency’s response came after CBCN President Archbishop Lucius Iwejuru highlighted pressing issues like unemployment, insecurity, poverty, and corruption at the bishops’ plenary meeting in Abuja, urging leaders to take swift action.
Onanuga acknowledged the difficulties faced by Nigerians but emphasized the administration’s efforts to address them. He noted that Nigeria is more secure today than it was in 2023, with over 8,000 criminals eliminated and more than 10,000 abducted Nigerians rescued.
The Presidency also highlighted initiatives aimed at job creation and youth empowerment, such as the 3MTT, NATEP, LEEP, IDiCE, NiYA, and the Nigerian Youth Investment Fund, which are expected to generate over 10 million new jobs.
While the Presidency’s response aims to reassure Nigerians of progress under President Tinubu, critics argue that the administration’s efforts have not yet yielded significant improvements in the country’s security situation.
