Ogun Rules Out Return of Monthly Environmental Sanitation

The Ogun State Government has ruled out the return of the former monthly environmental sanitation exercise, saying it will continue to promote daily sanitation and strengthen waste management across the state.

Governor Dapo Abiodun stated this during the commissioning of waste-management equipment, operational vehicles and an office block in Abeokuta. The governor was represented at the event by the Commissioner for Environment, Dr Ola Oresanya.

According to the governor, the state’s approach is to encourage residents to maintain clean surroundings on a daily basis rather than rely on a designated monthly sanitation exercise.

Abiodun also said the government would provide additional compactors and other waste-management equipment to the Ogun State Waste Management Authority (OGWAMA) to enhance its capacity for collecting and disposing of household, commercial and industrial waste.

The governor added that the state would continue to work with accredited Private Sector Participation operators as part of efforts to improve waste collection and management.

The government’s position effectively rules out a return to the former monthly environmental sanitation model, with emphasis now placed on sustained daily sanitation and improved waste-management services across Ogun State.
