Police Probe Three Politicians Over Alleged Inciting Comments Ahead of 2027 Elections

The Nigeria Police Force has commenced investigations into alleged inciting comments attributed to Borno State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Sainna Buba; Chairman of Kuje Area Council in the Federal Capital Territory, Danjuma Shekwolo; and Senator Francis Fadahunsi, representing Osun East Senatorial District.

Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Aniete Iniedu, disclosed this on Tuesday during a joint security spokespersons’ briefing in Abuja. He said the alleged statements, particularly those relating to the electoral process, were under investigation and that the outcome would be made public.

Meanwhile, the National Peace Committee, chaired by former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, is monitoring compliance with the Peace Accord and electoral regulations ahead of the 2027 general elections. The committee’s Head of Secretariat, Fr. Atta Barkindo, said it has established a situation room and an Electoral Offences Tracking System for documenting electoral offences and breaches of the accord.

The Police investigations and the Peace Committee’s monitoring efforts are aimed at ensuring that political actors and other stakeholders comply with relevant electoral laws and the commitments contained in the Peace Accord.
