Sagamu LG Hosts 13th Annual Ramadan Lecture: Chairman Odulate, Imam Ashaye Stress the Value of Time in Islam
In a gathering that emphasized the spiritual essence of time, the Sagamu Local Government Staff Muslim Community successfully held its 13th Annual Ramadan Public Lecture today. The event, graced by religious scholars, government officials, and community members, focused on the theme, “Time Factor: Islamic Perspective,” and served as a platform for reflection and spiritual enlightenment.
The lecture featured the distinguished presence of the Chief Imam of Makun Land, Fadhilat Asheik (Dr.) Tajudeen K. Ashaye, who delivered a thought-provoking discourse on the significance of time in Islam. He underscored how time shapes faith, actions, and responsibilities, urging Muslims to maximize every moment in devotion to Allah and service to humanity.
In his welcome address, Ogbeni Jubril Olasile Odulate, the Executive Chairman of Sagamu Local Government, expressed profound gratitude to Almighty Allah for the blessing of witnessing another Ramadan and the opportunity to partake in the enlightening lecture. “Alhamdulillah! We give adoration to Allah for His benediction and immeasurable blessings over us to witness this year’s Ramadan Public Lecture, the 13th of its kind,” he said.
Chairman Odulate extended his greetings to the noble Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and offered warm regards to both Muslims and non-Muslims present.
He acknowledged the presence of clerics, especially the Guest Lecturer, and commended the commitment of the executive and legislative arms of the local government for their unwavering support.
Highlighting the spiritual significance of Ramadan, he described the holy month as a period of self-growth, charity, and community bonding. “I admonish everyone present to go by the way of God and follow the doctrine and principles of Allah to better our lives,” he urged. He further expressed confidence in Imam Ashaye’s ability to do justice to the topic, adding that understanding the value of time from an Islamic lens is crucial for spiritual development.
The chairman also took a moment to celebrate the award recipients, congratulating them for their contributions and urging them to consider the recognition as a call to greater service in the cause of Allah. “Your award of honour should be seen as a clarion call to continue doing more for the community and for Allah’s cause,” he stated.
In his concluding prayers, Chairman Odulate invoked Allah’s blessings for the community, seeking divine acceptance of their good deeds. “May Almighty Allah consider our good deeds an act of Ibadah and reward us here and hereafter. Aameen,” he prayed.
The lecture concluded on a reflective note, as participants were reminded of the transient nature of time and the importance of aligning their lives with the principles of Islam.
Both leaders called on the faithful to maximize the spiritual opportunities presented by Ramadan and to dedicate their time to acts of worship, charity, and service.
