Super Eagles Crushed 3–0 by Guinea-Bissau in AFCON Qualifier
The Super Eagles suffered a heavy 3–0 defeat to Guinea-Bissau on Tuesday in their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying clash at the Estádio 24 de Setembro in Bissau.
Nigeria came into the game with confidence after beginning their Group L campaign with a 2–1 comeback victory over Madagascar in Uyo. Guinea-Bissau had also won their opening fixture, defeating Tanzania 2–0 away from home, setting up a top-of-the-table encounter between the two sides.
The hosts took the lead in the 15th minute through Franculino Djú, putting Nigeria on the back foot early in the contest.
The Super Eagles tried to respond but struggled to turn their opportunities into goals. Guinea-Bissau remained dangerous and eventually doubled their advantage in the 66th minute, with Mama Baldé finding the net.
Nigeria had a few chances to reduce the deficit and get themselves back into the match but failed to make them count. The hosts, meanwhile, remained disciplined and protected their advantage.
With Nigeria pushing forward in search of a way back, Álvaro Djaló put the result beyond doubt by scoring Guinea-Bissau’s third goal in the 90+5th minute.
The defeat means Nigeria’s perfect start to the qualifying campaign has come to an abrupt end, while Guinea-Bissau strengthen their position in Group L after recording victories over both Tanzania and Nigeria.
The Super Eagles will next face Tanzania on Wednesday, November 11, 2026, as the AFCON 2027 qualifiers continue.
