Super Falcons Begin Olympic Qualifying Preparations in Ikenne

Nigeria’s Super Falcons have stepped up preparations for their 2028 Olympic Games qualifying tie against Comoros, with 14 players taking part in a training session at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne on Monday.

The session marked the beginning of intensive preparations under interim head coach Augustine Eguavoen ahead of the two-legged second-round qualifying tie. More players are expected to join the squad as the team continues its build-up to the opening fixture.

Comoros are designated as the home side for the first leg, scheduled for Friday, October 9, while Nigeria will be the designated home team for the return fixture on Tuesday, October 13. However, both matches will be played at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne-Remo.

The arrangement follows the absence of a CAF-approved venue in Comoros for international fixtures, resulting in both legs being staged at the Ogun State venue.

Nigeria received a bye into the second round as one of the three highest-ranked teams in the qualifying competition, while Comoros advanced after defeating Sudan 30-0 on aggregate. The Super Falcons must progress through the knockout rounds to secure one of Africa’s two places at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

The Falcons will continue their preparations in Ikenne as they target a strong start to their Olympic qualification campaign.
