Tinubu Directs EFCC to Seek Release of Frozen Osun Government Accounts Ahead of Election

President Bola Tinubu has directed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to return to court and seek the vacation of an order freezing accounts belonging to the Osun State Government.

The EFCC obtained the court order on August 5, 2026, just days before the August 15 governorship election in the state. Tinubu said he was concerned about the timing of the action, while stressing that the EFCC was acting under a valid court order.

The President therefore directed the anti-graft agency to approach the court to have the order vacated. The directive does not, by itself, mean the accounts have already been unfrozen, as the final decision rests with the court.

The core claim is verified, but reports should accurately state that Tinubu directed the EFCC to seek the court’s vacation of the freezing order, rather than suggesting the President directly cancelled the court order.
