Toluwalase and Ifeloluwa Celebrate Marriage in Grand Yoruba Traditional and White Wedding

Toluwalase Oluwanifemi Awoderu and Ifeloluwa Christopher Oyedotun have celebrated their union in a grand wedding ceremony that brought together family, friends and well-wishers in a colourful blend of Yoruba tradition, faith and celebration in Lagos.
The celebrations began with a traditional Yoruba wedding at 10 Degrees Events Centre, Oregun, Ikeja, where both families formally came together to mark the union.
The ceremony featured traditional marriage rites, prayers, family blessings, music and dancing, reflecting the cultural significance of the occasion and the coming together of the two families.
Proceedings began with the ceremonial entrance of the bride’s family, led by her parents, followed by the groom’s family, who danced into the venue. An opening prayer was led by Pastor Olaitan, after which members of the groom’s family observed the customary gesture of removing their caps before formally greeting the bride’s family.
The groom’s family subsequently stated their purpose of intent and presented a proposal letter seeking the bride’s hand in marriage. The letter was read by the bride’s younger sister, Aseoluwa Awoderu, after which the bride’s family accepted the proposal and prayers were offered for the couple.
The groom later entered with his groomsmen, dancing towards the bride’s family before prostrating as a traditional gesture of respect and request for the bride’s hand in marriage. The gesture was received with acceptance and prayers.
The bride subsequently made her entrance with her bridesmaids and knelt before her parents to receive their blessings. In an emotional moment, she expressed gratitude to her parents for their love, guidance and support before receiving their prayers as she prepared to begin her marital journey.
The groom’s family then unveiled the bride, after which the couple exchanged rings in the presence of their families and guests. A traditional praise chanter also paid tribute to both families through a traditional eulogy celebrating their heritage and the union of the two households.
The traditional ceremony later moved into a lively celebration, with family members, friends and guests joining the couple on the dance floor. The occasion concluded with the cutting of the traditional wedding cake amid cheers and celebrations.
The couple subsequently proceeded to celebrate their white wedding, beginning with the formalisation of their marriage under the law at the venue, where officials from the Ikeja Local Government Marriage Registry conducted the legal ceremony.
Before the registrar, Toluwalase and Ifeloluwa exchanged vows and rings, signed their marriage certificate and were formally declared legally married. Their parents served as official witnesses, while the couple sealed the moment with a kiss to the delight of their guests.
The couple then proceeded to Joy Cometh Ministries, Ebute-Igbogbo Road, Ebute Ipakodo, Lagos, for the church service.
The service opened with praise and worship, followed by the processional hymn, Firm Foundation, opening prayer, announcements and Bible reading.
One of the major highlights was the bride’s entrance, as Toluwalase walked down the aisle on her father’s arm with her face veiled. She was received by Ifeloluwa at the altar, where he unveiled her face, drawing applause from the congregation.
The couple were subsequently joined and blessed in marriage, while the choir led the congregation in worship and thanksgiving. Delivering the exhortation, Venerable Blessing Ajayi charged the newlyweds to build their home on faith, love, commitment and values that would sustain their marriage.
The marriage certificate was later presented before the congregation in the presence of the best man, Tijesulope Oyedotun, chief bridesmaid, Aseoluwa Awoderu, the couple’s parents and close relatives.
In a vote of thanks, the bride’s father expressed appreciation to the officiating ministers, family members, friends and guests, as well as those who supported him throughout the celebration. He also offered special words and prayers for his new son, the groom.
The church service ended with prayers and the recessional hymn, Great Is Thy Faithfulness, before the celebration continued at Yard158 Events Arena, Oregun, Ikeja, for the reception.
The reception featured the entrance of the parents, bridal party and newlyweds, followed by the chairman’s welcome address and opening prayer led by Pastor Joshua Adesanya.
The couple shared their first dance as husband and wife, while a father-daughter dance and mother-son dance provided emotional moments for the families. Guests later joined the couple and the wedding train on the dance floor before raising toasts in honour of the newlyweds.
The couple also cut their wedding cake, while entertainment continued with an A-to-Z singing game and a dance-off between the groomsmen and bridesmaids. The bouquet toss and other celebratory moments followed before the formal reception came to a close with remarks and prayers for the couple.
The celebrations continued with an after-party, where the newlyweds appeared in fresh outfits and joined family and friends for an energetic evening of music and dancing.
The wedding celebration ultimately brought together Yoruba culture, Christian faith, family traditions and friendship, marking the union of Toluwalase Oluwanifemi Awoderu and Ifeloluwa Christopher Oyedotun in the presence of their loved ones and well-wishers.
