Truck kills police inspector in Ogun State
A police inspector, Afolabi Adeola, was reportedly killed after being struck by a truck at a checkpoint on the Abeokuta–Sagamu Motorway in Ogun State.
Our correspondent gathered on Wednesday that the incident took place on Sunday around 12:30 p.m. near the Judiciary Complex checkpoint in Abeokuta.
The truck, reportedly carrying 900 bags of cement, was said to be speeding toward the checkpoint when the accident happened.
Prior to hitting the officer, the truck allegedly collided with another vehicle that had stopped at the checkpoint in compliance with police traffic controls.
The impact from the crash was said to have fatally injured Inspector Adeola, who was on official duty at the checkpoint.
He was rushed to a hospital in Lagos, where he died on Monday shortly after undergoing an X-ray.
According to a report by a security analyst, Zagazola Makama, on his X (Twitter), officers from the traffic unit visited the scene, documented the crash, and recovered both vehicles to the station for further investigation.
The suspects involved in the incident are scheduled to be arraigned in court on Wednesday, July 3.
When reached for comment, the Ogun State Police Command spokesperson, CSP Omolola Odutola, advised that an official statement would be issued soon and asked the public to await the press release.
“Please wait for the official press release,” she said.
As of the time this report was prepared, CSP Odutola had not yet released any formal statement regarding the incident, but a response is expected shortly.
