WAEC Releases 2026 WASSCE Results, 61.54% Secure Five Credits Including English, Mathematics
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has defended the credibility of the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results released for school candidates.
WAEC released the results on August 5, 2026, after candidates across participating countries completed the examination. The council said 1,950,726 candidates sat for the examination.
According to WAEC, 1,200,514 candidates, representing 61.54 per cent, obtained credits in at least five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics.
The examination body also reported that the results of 167,486 candidates were withheld over cases it identified as suspected examination malpractice. WAEC said the affected results would be subject to further investigation in line with its procedures.
The council maintained that the 2026 examination results went through established processes, including marking, moderation and quality-control procedures, before their release.
WAEC has urged candidates, parents and other stakeholders to obtain information about the examination and results through its official communication channels and avoid relying on unverified information circulating online.
The 2026 WASSCE results therefore remain officially valid, subject to the council’s ongoing handling of withheld results and examination-malpractice cases.
