Two Drivers Die In Lagos-Abeokuta Accident

The Lagos-Abeokuta expressway saw a tragic accident involving a Mazda bus and a Mazda car, leading to the loss of two lives and leaving one individual injured.

Mr. Babatunde Akinbiyi, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), confirmed this unfortunate incident to the press in Abeokuta.

The accident took place at 7:10 a.m. at Ayedere village, in the Ewekoro Local Government Area, Ogun State.

Akinbiyi explained that the collision was caused by the driver of the unregistered Mazda car, who recklessly drove against traffic and collided head-on with the Mazda bus bearing the registration SEY 311 ZY.

Tragically, both drivers of the involved vehicles lost their lives instantly due to the severe impact of the collision.

However, a motor boy (conductor) travelling by bus sustained various degrees of injuries in the accident. He was promptly rescued and transported to a nearby medical facility for necessary medical attention.

Simultaneously, the family of the car’s driver had taken his body for burial arrangements.

The body of the bus driver was deposited at the mortuary of Ifo General Hospital.

Describing the incident, Akinbiyi said, “The unregistered Mazda car, driving in a direction prohibited by traffic law, collided with the bus, leaving the drivers of both vehicles dead on the spot due to the impact of the collision.”

This tragic collision serves as a sombre reminder of the importance of adhering to traffic laws and regulations to ensure road safety for all commuters.
