Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has taken decisive action to address the challenges faced by residents in flood-affected areas of Lagos Island. During an on-site inspection, the governor observed the disregard for well-being and the environment, including indiscriminate dumping of refuse and illegal construction. As a result, a one-week quit notice has been issued to the affected individuals, with plans underway to demolish illegal structures and regenerate the entire area.

Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized the government’s commitment to improving the lives of residents and the general populace. The Ministry of Environment has been instructed to serve necessary notices and commence the demolition of illegal structures immediately. This proactive approach aims to create a safer and more sustainable environment for all, ensuring the well-being of the community and preserving the beauty of Lagos Island.

“What was sadly visible during this inspection was the outright disregard for their well being, the environment and their surroundings through the indiscriminate dumping of refuse, abuse of drainages and illegal construction of shops and market stalls by some residents.I have therefore issued a one-week quit notice to the affected people.

 

“I promised residents of the government’s plan to regenerate the entire place for the good of the residents and the general populace.” The governor said.

 

With this regeneration plan in motion, the government of Lagos State is taking significant steps towards creating a better future for its citizens and fostering a cleaner, more prosperous Lagos Island.
