Lagos State Announces Ambitious Plans: To Establish Airline, Construct Airport in Lekki

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has revealed plans for the construction of its own airport in the burgeoning Lekki suburb. The announcement came during the Lagos West Senatorial District Town Hall meeting at the Balmoral Convention Centre, Ikeja, where Governor Sanwo-Olu presented the achievements of his administration to Lagosians.

Highlighting the state’s commitment to advancing infrastructure, the governor disclosed that the planned airport would be situated in Lekki, a fast-developing area on the Epe axis of Lagos. This ambitious venture aims to further bolster Lagos State’s standing as a major economic hub.

During the presentation, Governor Sanwo-Olu also addressed the delay in the commencement of the much-anticipated 38-kilometer Fourth Mainland Bridge. He attributed the setback to funding challenges but assured residents that efforts were underway to overcome these obstacles.

The Fourth Mainland Bridge is designed to connect Lagos Island across the Lagoon, stretching from Langbasa in Lekki to Baiyeku, Itamaga in Ikorodu. The proposed 2 x 4 lane carriageway includes provisions for a Bus Rapid Transit Lane and future road expansion, with the primary goal of alleviating traffic congestion on existing bridges connecting Lagos Island to the Mainland.

Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized that the new infrastructure projects are part of the state’s strategic vision to enhance transportation, stimulate economic growth, and position Lagos as a global player.
