NANS Urges NLC to Prioritize National Development Over Planned Strike

The National Association of Nigeria Students (NANS) has appealed to the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) to reconsider its planned strike and focus on prioritizing national development. NANS urged the NLC to explore alternative avenues for resolving disputes with the Federal Government instead of resorting to strike action.
Despite the NLC President, Joe Ajaero’s insistence on holding a protest on Tuesday and Wednesday over the country’s economic hardship, NANS Senate President, Akinteye Babatunde, addressed concerns about the potential repercussions of the strike on academic activities and citizens’ welfare.
Babatunde acknowledged the legitimate grievances of workers and emphasized the importance of collaboration with the government for the greater good of the nation. He urged the NLC to prioritize dialogue and constructive engagement, emphasizing that such approaches are essential for addressing grievances and achieving meaningful progress in improving workers’ welfare and citizens’ well-being.
Expressing worries about the impact of the strike on academic activities, Babatunde stated that disruptions to academic calendars, examinations, and other educational activities could further worsen the already precarious situation in the education sector.
While recognizing the challenges faced by workers, NANS affirmed its readiness to support the NLC in advocacy efforts and dialogue with the government to address these challenges. The student body appealed to the NLC to prioritize the national interest and seek common ground with the government to ensure the well-being and prosperity of all Nigerians.
